10 Things that iTunes Does Right

iTunes gets a lot of criticism, including a lot that I dish out, and much of this criticism is justified. iTunes has lots of problems syncing iOS devices, iTunes Match and iCloud Music Library are confusing, and the interface, particularly in iTunes 12, is confusing.

To be fair, though, iTunes does get a lot right. You can condemn it for many problems, but it’s good to sometimes take a step back and give it credit for the features that work so well that you hardly pay attention to them. I’ve picked ten things that iTunes does right.

  1. 3,5,6 I agree with. CD ripping I don’t have confidence rips will be error free. Need more feedback, logs, control, like dbPoweramp (now has OS X version).
    ITS should have lossless files available. With digital booklets and prices equal to or lower than a physical CD from Amazon.
    Gracenote IS awesome. dbPoweramp consults 4 known databases simultaneously but collectively Gracenote is more likely to have that new oddball Scandinavian classical CD. ?
    ITunes 12 IS FASTER for me (navigating, searching, tag updates, importing) with my huge 5TB library. First speed increase I can remember. ?

    • Yes, I have trouble using their comments system too.

      I’m pretty satisfied with iTunes CD ripping, as long as error correction is on.
