Apple Releases iTunes 12.4, Simplifying Navigation

Apple has released iTunes 12.4, which simplifies navigation and management in the app. This is an excellent update, which removes a lot of the questionable navigation features that have made iTunes 12 so complicated. I’ve just written an article about iTunes 12.4 for Macworld.

Also, see Some Minor Changes in iTunes 12.4 for an overview of the smaller changes that I didn’t mention in the article.

Doug Adams also notes that there are some interesting changes to the iTunes AppleScript dictionary.

You can update iTunes in the usual ways, or download it from the Apple website (at the time of this writing, iTunes 12.3.3 is still the version you can download; this should be update soon

  1. One thing that seems to be missing now is the ability to show new adds to the music library in the default album view — that was more interesting and functional for me than always seeing the albums alphabetically. Maybe I’m missing something?
