Apple Support Now Lets You Opt Out of Listening to Their Staticky Hold Music

I’ve long been astounded by the abysmal sound quality of hold music when I call Apple support. It’s staticky, drops out a lot, and sounds like it’s a 16 kbps MP3 file being played over a Bluetooth speaker to a phone that someone is holding up.

I had to call Apple this morning about my Apple Watch, and when I went through the menus to get a support technician, I heard this:

Apple is happy to offer music while you wait. If you’d rather wait in silence, press 1 now.

Finally! You’re no longer forced to listen to crappy sounding music! This is real progress from Apple.

(Note: I’m in the UK. Your experience may vary in other countries.)
