I got my Apple Watch today, and I found that the Workout app was displaying my distance in miles. I think in kilometers, and I’ve changed the Health app to display kilometers, which is an easy-to-find setting. On the Apple Watch, however, it is hidden.
Go to the Workouts app. Select a workout, and swipe to the screen that shows distance.
Force tap (tap and hold until you feel taptic feedback), and you’ll see the following screen:
Tap MI or KM, according to the unit you want to use.
Found just what I needed from your site; how to change from yards to metres on my watch, it’s a shame this information isn’t on the Apple site, or at least I couldn’t find it easily.

Thank you so much. I changed it somehow and couldn’t figure out how to change it back. Great and easy explanation!

Just goes to show how America centric Apple products are. The majority of the world uses metric yet the default units are American? Is this a perverse way of demonstrating that Apple products are assembled elsewhere but they are ‘designed’ in the USA
