I very much like well-recorded and mastered mono recordings. A number of artists have released remastered versions of their early recordings from the days when mono was the norm, and the Rolling Stones are the next one to do so. At the end of September, they are releasing a 15-CD box set of their early mono recordings. (Amazon.com, Amazon UK)
This set covers their music through the 1969 Let it Bleed, and continues two versions of Out of Our Heads and Aftermath, since the US and UK releases were different. There is also a disc entitled Stray Cats, which, while no explanation is given, is probably a collection of non-album tracks, such as singles and EPs.
I’m looking forward to this.
Dear Kirk,
Thank you for the info that this set was coming out. I listened to the early Rolling Stones albums many, many times in the 1960s. I was lucky enough to see the band perform, twice, during the mid-1960s. I ordered the boxed set of CDs and they arrived here yesterday.
