Customer Letter – Apple

The United States government has demanded that Apple take an unprecedented step which threatens the security of our customers. We oppose this order, which has implications far beyond the legal case at hand.

This moment calls for public discussion, and we want our customers and people around the country to understand what is at stake.

I’m very glad that Apple is at the forefront of this problem. Too many clueless politicians have been opining about encryption without much understanding of what would happen if manufacturers were required to build backdoors into their operating systems.

  1. Not sure if it’s time to high-five anyone just yet. There is a lot of controversy over this issue, and growing camps on both sides of the arguement. There’s no simple answer and results on either side could be a disaster if not handled correctly.

I do know that Apple should NOT be allowed to sneak onto my iPhone and remove software and data without my permission. (which they did yesterday and completely screwed up both my phone and my Macbook Pro) That’s for sure.

If they can do that, then YES, they should fall under the law like anyone else — and comply to a federal subpoena.

If they subpoena you and you refuse, guess what happens.
