Does Apple Not Know the Difference Between Bit Rate and Sample Rate?

I have a cheap Windows laptop – very cheap – that I use to check certain apps when I’m writing about software that has both Mac and Windows versions. Today, I was looking at the iTunes preferences on Windows, and I was surprised to see this in the Playback preferences:

Bitrate windows

Apple says “Bitrate for Audio Playback,” but that’s the sample rate. I wonder if they don’t know the difference, or if this is just a mistake.

The team that works on Audio-MIDI Setup knows the correct term, however:

Audio midi sample rate
