This is a problem that has been reported to me by many users, and that I’ve seen fairly often. In the iOS Music app, if you browse your music by Genre, you may see some genres display more than once:
When this happens, there’s really nothing you can do short of restoring the device, or turning off music syncing and turning it on again (though it may reproduce if you do that latter). I have no idea why this happens, but it seems that, in all cases, you see the same artists and albums in each instance of the duplicated genre.
Whatever happened to the genre-based smart/genius playlists in the last version of iTunes – the one where there was a landing page of big icons each containing tiny thumbnails of one’s album covers? It used to work pretty well for my collection but it appears to be gone. Is it hidden anywhere? The single ‘Genius Shuffle’ command is a poor substitute and there’s no apparent way to shuffle a specific type of music as well as the old ‘big icon’ option.

(I was referring to iTunes for Mac.)

I’m having the same problem. The “Alternative” genre appears 5 times for me! I’ve tried a few things including deleting all music and re-sync’ing as well as restoring the phone and nothing has worked – the problem keeps happening. Very annoying.
But this is just another in a long string of annoyances with the Music app. It has been a mess ever since iOS 7 was released.
