Get the Complete West Wing in HD

West wingI hadn’t realized it before, but the iTunes Store has the complete West Wing in 1080p HD for a mere $75. Since you can’t buy it on Blu-Ray, this is the only way to get the series in HD. It looks like it was released on the iTunes Store last December.

I would say this is the best dramatic TV series ever. Grab it; if you haven’t seen it, this is a good occasion to watch it. If you have seen it, then you know that it’s worth getting in HD.

Buy the Complete West Wing from the iTunes Store.

While you’re at it, you can also get The Wire in HD from the iTunes Store. Interestingly, this is quite different from the DVDs. It was shot in 16:9, but David Simon preferred the 4:3 aspect ratio, so it was broadcast in that format, and the DVDs were also in that format. The HD release is in 16:9, with many of the scenes looking quite different from the originals. (You can also get The Wire on Blu-Ray.)

  1. This is great news – alas only available in the US, so us Europeans are (once again) SOL. So waiting for a (thus far nonexistent) BluRay release it is..

    • I doubt there will be a Blu-Ray release. If there was going to be, it would have already happened. It’s an old enough series that it probably wouldn’t sell much on Blu-Ray.

      • So hunting down $75 in store credits it is.

        I wish globalization weren’t such a one-way street.. 😉

    • Yes, but it’s only been available for sale, and in 1080p, since last December, it seems. And it’s not on Netflix in every country.

  3. Not on Netflix in Australia, and $175 on iTunes 🙁 A mere $100 for the complete box set in standard D

  5. I just went to the iTune link mentioned above and all the episodes are 720p. Can anyone tell me where the 1080p versions are?

    • Go to iTunes > Preferences > Store, and make sure you’ve checked the setting for Full-sized HD videos.

      • Thanks for the reply. They certainly bury that deep in the interface. This is the first time I’ve used iTunes. I have one more question. I’ve purchased the product, confirmed the download, but I don’t see the download progress. It doesn’t appear in the download list of Chrome, it doesn’t appear in my default download directory, nor my download manager, which usually intercepts all downloads. Is there a way to see if it’s downloading at all?
