Hey Apple, Fix This: Sort Safari Bookmarks Alphabetically

Apple fix this

Remember when you first started using a web browser, how great it was to be able to save bookmarks? It was necessary back in the day, because you couldn’t remember all those URLs, and browsers didn’t auto-complete with addresses of your saved sites. They also didn’t suggest sites when you typed the name of a company or publication, so you needed to know the URL to get where you wanted.

But the more bookmarks you save, the harder it is to find what you’re looking for. Remember that site where you saw that really interesting article last month? You bookmarked it, and you remember the title, but if you look in your Safari bookmarks, you have to either scan the entire list, or search for it. Sure, you can sort bookmarks in folders, but who has the time to do that? And you’d only do that for the sites you visit very often.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could sort bookmarks alphabetically in Safari?

  1. Unsorted bookmarks (and I have LOTS of bookmarks) have never been a problem for me: searching works well enough.

I’d rather Apple spent more time fixing stuff in Safari that doesn’t work at all or works badly. For example, you want to add a page to Top Sites? Where’s the menu command? There isn’t one that I can find. Instead, you have to hold down on the little circled + symbol in the URL/Search bar that appears when you mouse over it to see a menu with Add to Top Sites. That button, by the way, is the Add to Reading List button, which already has an entry in the Bookmarks menu! Hey, Apple FIX THAT!

  3. Yes, I wish Apple would fix the Safari bookmarks as well. I have been using a Mac for a long time — over 10 years. Along with saving news, music and miscellaneous links, I generally save the important stuff about each version of OS X. Hence I have a lot of duplicates, but I haven’t sorted them as I just don’t have the time, or desire, to run through them all. Yes, I tried folders, but… well, it is still unbelievable that Apple still hasn’t given us a way to sort bookmarks. It CAN’T be that hard to implement.
