iCloud Music Library Outages Reported Around the World

I just saw this alert when I launched iTunes on one of my Macs:

Icloud music library down

Shortly afterwards, Doug Adams tweeted that this is a Worldwide problem. (His tweet actually contained four screenshots in four different languages, but for some reason, only one shows if you click the link above and view it in a browser.) It seems that something’s broken.

This happened from time to time with iTunes Match, in the past, and there were even times when iTunes Match was down for an entire day. Let’s hope Apple can keep this working; there are more people than ever depending on the cloud for music.

Are you seeing this? If so, where in the world are you. Post in the comments.

  1. I didn’t see any other way to contact so I have a question. I have 10 playlists in iTunes. One I listen to most of the time. When I sync my iPhone with iTunes, it duplicates that playlist everytime I sync. Just now I deleted 3 copies of that play list from iTunes and 2 from the phone.

  3. Yes, I can confirm that this troubled me yesterday evening here in India too. Apparently has resolved now in the morning. Thanks for the article.

  5. I am unable to play any music from iCloud for 24 hours now (in Canada). It is pretty annoying. When you try to launch a playlist, it is just scrolling one piece after another without doing anything. I found a workaround on a forum: force your DNS to be 199.85.126.10 or 199.85.127.10.
Apple status is all green! Impossible to get any support from an overloaded Apple Support. Apple Music is really losing some credibility here.

  7. Same here in the Netherlands or Holland as you might call it. Very annoying. Another problem occurs when putting a song link from the Apple Music Library in your own Music Library for later playback. The item either does not get stored in your library or gets greyed out (and is not playable). Probably all to do with an overloaded system.

  9. Yeah, so I also have been having problems for over 24 hours now (I’m also in Canada). Last night, I was simply getting the “broken” cloud icon saying “Unable to access your iCloud Music Library” when hovering the mouse pointer over it. Today, I get messages telling me it’s unable to contact the iTunes store. Sigh…

    • Gosh, I guess many here don’t have a lot of experience with Apple cloud technologies. mac.com, MobileMe, iCloud. They all started out with big bumps in the road. But after awhile they worked perfectly. No, let’s be honest. They got a little better. But they’ve struggled with outages. They probably have tons of hardware and locations globally. I wonder if it’s more of a code issue, like pushing changes out globally to fix issues that backfire and cause corruption or situations that take a long time to resolve.

Haven’t checked apple.com. They should acknowledge the issue with a Tim Cook letter.

  11. I’m in Scotland and still seeing issues. I cannot play any song which has not been downloaded. I have this issue on my Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone. The current error from Apple is – We’re sorry. we cannot complete your request on the iTunes Store at this time. Please try again later.

    • Much of Apple’s music stuff has been down today. Apparently it’s back in some parts of the world, but you may still be having problems where you are. This is a different issue, I think, but it affected more than just iCloud Music Library.

      • Thanks for the prompt reply. I saw a suggestion that you should log out and then log back in and this seemed to help for a short time before the issue started again. I’ll be patient and try again tomorrow or the day after.
