There is still new malware pretending to be Flash Player updates, even though Flash is dead; Facebook said they were ditching their facial recognition program, but has done an about face; and we discuss whether Apple is on a path to lock down the Mac to only allow apps to be installed from the Mac App Store.

I definitely think Apple is slowly closing the door. Today I upgraded to Monterey 12.01, and I got a dialog box telling me that my copy of Audio Hijack need updating to work with Monterey. But in order to activate it I had to adjust my security settings in the Recovery environment. That alone sounded like the first domino.
I discuss that on the podcast. It is a very complicated process, and it never was back in the day. I don’t know of any other apps that require that process, though.
