iTunes 12.4: What Albums Are These?

Listening to some music on my MacBook today, I find it hard to see the names of albums:

What albums are these

When you use one of the views that adds a column to the right of the sidebar – Artists, Genres, or Composers – the album section can be quite narrow. I generally don’t set the iTunes window very large on my laptop, and, as you can see above, it’s hard to know what the albums are. In particular, the first album – added from Apple Music – contains the composer’s name before the title, and that’s all I see.

Apple could fix this by offering a tooltip when you hover your cursor over an album name, or a track name, if that is truncated.

  1. Exactly. And this is my cue to say that the same problem presents itself on iOS, that they solved it on iOS 6 with a “tap and hold to reveal the full title” approach, and that they stripped this functionality out of iOS 7, 8, and 9. I don’t know if it exists in iOS 10, but come on, Apple, it’s time.

I’m sure non-iTunes users reading this, if there are such people out there, must be laughing so hard they can hardly hear themselves laugh.

Doesn’t this make you want to give up?
I am SO glad I have not been duped into guinea-pigging the ongoing prototypes that are the Apple Music, Match, or iCloud aspects of this mostly lovely media indexer, and had that techsoul-destroying mess of wrong albums/titles/meta thrown into the mix. And, on top of that (as Apple laugh all the way to the bank) you’re now telling me, “it’s hard to know what the albums are…”?

Mindbogglingly inept (I’d say, contemptible) from a company that brags all day, every day, about ease of use.
