Latest OS X Update Includes Update for USB-C Multiport Adapter

Usb c adapter

I have a MacBook, and the USB-C Multiport Adapter was connected to it to charge the computer. After I installed the latest OS X update, I saw this:

Usb adapter update

Clicking Install, I then saw the following description for the update:

Usb c update notes

So if you have a Macbook, and have one of these adapters, plug it into your laptop to apply the update to the adapter. You’ll need to restart your MacBook after applying the update.

If you’re not seeing the updater, or if you have more than one adapter and need to run it again, you can find it in /System/Library/CoreServices/Firmware Updates/USB-C Multiport\ Adapter/. (H/t to @pmod for pointing out the location of the updater.)

  1. It’s surely a matter of time before apple sell a laptop without any ports at all. It’ll be called MacBook Ultra or something

      • Everything is plugged correctly. I install update in OS X then Macbook restarts, no progress bar and nothing happens, after OS X run the message about update shows again… They don’t know what to do on Apple Support, they even told me that 10.11.4 will be released on April, so I must told them that it was released yesterday… They don’t care about this… I don’t believe that I’am saying this but Apple support sucks…

        • Is yours the USB or HDMI version? Mine’s the USB; maybe the HDMI (if that’s what you have) doesn’t need the update. Also, did you buy yours recently? Perhaps it already has the fix.

          • Its Multiport USB and HDMI. If it doesn’t need update system will didn’t show that it needs to be updated. I buy mine few months ago.
