Help Support Kirkville

On Kirkville, I’ve strived to provide interesting and useful content, whether it’s about iTunes or the Grateful Dead, classical music or theater, Apple products, books, photography, and more.

As earning money from journalism becomes increasingly difficult, freelancers like myself need to explore new avenues of funding, without annoying readers with ads. I have long eschewed intrusive advertising, relying on some Amazon ads, and the occasional sponsorship.

I’m asking you to put your hands in your virtual pockets and contribute a small monthly sum to support Kirkville, and ensure that I can keep providing interesting articles, reviews, and other interesting content.

If you prefer to make a one-off donation, you can use this PayPal link. (The PayPal account is under my business’s name, Eyes of the World Limited.)

Thanks in advance to all my loyal readers.

Kirkville, Now Even More Kirkville

About a month ago, I let you all know that I was changing the domain of this website. I acquired kirkville.com, which makes the branding of this site a bit more logical (and it’s easier to remember how to spell).

I’ll repeat what I wrote in last month’s article:

Here’s what will change. If you have any bookmarks to this site, they’ll get redirected to the new domain when I make the switch. I’ll leave the redirection on for at least a year, but it’s a good idea to update your bookmarks after the change is made.

The RSS feed will change, but the same redirection will be in place. Again, it’s best to update your RSS reader to ensure that you don’t miss out on anything.

If you’re a subscriber to my weekly newsletter, nothing changes. If you subscribe to updates on the site via WordPress, they’ll change transparently.

If you encounter any problems, let me know.

Thanks for reading Kirkville!

Kirkville in 2016

2016 was another busy year for Kirkville. With 2.8 million page views and 2 million unique visitors, a lot of people came to the site to read about Apple’s latest versions of macOS, iOS, and iTunes. Page views were down a bit from 2015 (3 million), mainly because I moved in the middle of the year, and needed to spend a lot of time packing, then unpacking.

This years most five most popular articles were:

While my writings about books, music, and theater didn’t draw anywhere near the same numbers, they also proved relatively popular in 2016, particularly my reviews of Shakespeare plays at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

I hope you’ve appreciated the wide range of topics I cover, from Macs to music, from iTunes to iOS, and, now, even watches. I plan to continue along the same eclectic path in the new year, focusing mainly on technology, but also writing about my interests. Thanks very much for reading, and thanks to all the polite commenters who have turned many of these articles into conversations.

Thank you also for supporting Kirkville through my affiliate links for Amazon, Take Control Books, and other vendors. It doesn’t cost you anything to use these links, and I get a small percentage of what you spend, which helps me be able to afford to devote time to writing for this site.

As mentioned recently, I’ll be changing the domain of this site from kirkville.com to kirkville.com. I’ll be making the change in the next few days. Initially, you won’t see anything different, since old links will redirect to the new site, but I’ll remind you several times to change your bookmarks or RSS feeds to the new domain.

Coming Soon: New Domain for Kirkville

In the near future – hopefully around January 1, 2017 – I’ll be changing the domain for this website. I bought the domain kirkville.com, in order to “simplify my branding.” Let’s be honest, it’s a lot easier to remember “kirkville” than it is to remember how “mcelhearn” is spelled. So I’ll be switching to that domain soon. If you click on the link above, it should take you to this site now, since I’ve set up redirection in the interim.

So, for now, there’s nothing to do, and I’ll post another warning before I make the change. I’ll then provide more complete instructions when the change goes live.

Thanks for reading Kirkville!
