I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when I learned that Adam and Tonya Engst were selling Take Control Books – for which I’ve written several books – but I was reassured when they told me that Joe Kissell was acquiring the company. The transition was made official yesterday, when TidBITS announced the sale, and when Joe’s title official became Publisher.
I’ve been a Take Control author since its launch in 2003, and it’s been a wonderful experience. Tonya and Adam built something unique, a publishing company where authors have an equal share, and an approach to tech books that allows us to make updates much more easily than with print books.
But Adam and Tonya were, as they say, stuck in a rut, and the change, from having Joe write lots of books to Joe running the show, is everything that Take Control Books needs. I look forward to working with Joe, and seeing his ideas for expanding the Take Control readership. In the meantime, for customers and readers of my books, nothing changes; you may not even notice anything different.
